Overview

The Charlotte Independence is a professional soccer team based in Matthews competing in USL League One. Founded in 2014, the team plays home matches in the Mecklenburg County Sportsplex, a soccer-specific stadium in Matthews. The team originally played in the USL Championship League before moving to its current league in 2022. Known for its strong local support and competitive performances, Independence continues to develop talent and contribute to the growing soccer culture in the Charlotte area.

Update: The Charlotte Independence have moved their home games to be played at American Legion Memorial Stadium in Elizabeth, a neighborhood closer to Uptown Charlotte
